Are Online Sonography Programs Worth It?
Education is one of the most important basic rights people are entitled to. Issues on education being made accessible to Americans of different social class have been around since the beginning of time, since sending someone to school can be quite expensive with the number of years spent from primary to tertiary education. In many countries around the world, primary up to secondary education is free, but tertiary education is another question entirely.
Community colleges and scholarships are available in different states in the US, but travelling to and from school, book expenses, and even lunch money can be heavy in the pocket for some families. Because of this, a lot of people opt out of college entirely or choose to put it off and work first. But this is no longer the only option for people worrying about college expenses! Online programs have made it possible for students to study at home and save a lot of money and time while learning sonography.

Getting a degree
While society has progressed to the point where going to college isn’t the only option for a brighter future, the general consensus is still this – better and higher education can equal to better success. In the field of sonography, a degree or a certificate is a must. Sonographers either train in shorter, one-year certification training programs, or longer degree programs. Associate degrees last two-years and bachelor degrees last 4 years to complete. |
With the sheer number of schools offer sonography courses, which ones are the real deal? The best places to study sonography in are the schools whose sonography programs are accredited. Remember, an ultrasound school may be accredited by CAAHEP but its sonography program may not be. Remember to ask the administrative office of the sonography department, or do your own research online. Similarly, a school may have an accredited program but its online counterpart may not be.
The online option
Since the invention of the internet, information can now be searched and processed in a matter of seconds. Aside from making information readily available at the click of a button, the internet has also become a medium of the educational system. Because the burden of expenses can be tough one to bear, making tertiary education – specifically the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program – available on the internet has made studying an option for thousands of Americans all over the country.
The option of studying at home cuts back on so many costs – commute, food, dormitory, and miscellaneous expenses. At most, a student only has to pay for an internet connection and school books (most of which are available online for download). Students who study at home are able to fix their school time according to their personal schedules – not the other way around, as is common with in campus education. This kind of sonography education is perfect for working students or stay-at-home parents who do not have time to go to campus to study.
Online schools
Currently, there are only a few ultrasound schools that have accredited online programs in sonography:
These schools allow students to take all their classes online but still require clinical training. Most of them have affiliate health care institutions in different parts of the US; it all becomes a matter of finding one that is nearest and most available to you.
