Scholarships for Sonography Students in California
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, also known as ultrasound technologist, are the health professionals who operate the ultrasound machine to help detect various medical conditions, most commonly in the assessment and diagnostic of the fetus among pregnant women. There are several organizations offering scholarships for sonography students in California.
SDMS Sonography Scholarships in 2017
Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is a non-profit organization that provides financial aid and grants to students of sonography up to USD 2,500 for deserving students. Included in their program is the Sonography Student Scholarship, which is for students who are currently enrolled in diagnostic medical sonography or cardiovascular technology educational programs from schools in accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This scholarship is available yearly.
SDMS also offers Advanced Degree Scholarship, a sonography scholarship for individuals who have already had two years of full-time experience in the practice of ultrasound technology and are currently enrolled in advanced sonography-related programs from institutions recognized by the US Department of Education. This scholarship will be available starting January 2018.

Moreover, SDMS members who are extending their service internationally may apply for the International Assistance Program to receive monetary assistance.

Allied Health Scholarships
The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals (ASAHP), established in 1967 in Washington DC by the deans of allied health schools from 13 universities, is another non-profit organization of professionals in allied health education. ASAHP grants scholarship to the students of its member schools. It accepts applications until every 9th of June yearly.

Sonography students from these universities may submit their requirements and apply for allied health scholarship from ASAHP. However, if one is not from any of these universities, one may opt to apply for nationwide or state college scholarships, subject to eligibility.

Federal and state governments of the United States offer financial aid to students. Approximately USD 120 billion from the budget of the US Education Department goes to more than 13 million students in the form of scholarships and grants, as well as work-study assistance.
The Californian Department of Public Health (CDPH), for instance, provides student aids including ultrasound scholarships. These financial aids are granted to further establish quality health among the citizens of the state by having sufficient number of health workers.
