New York is one of the states with the best employment levels in the country. It ranks fourth out of fifty states. Ultrasound technician training in NYC is quite popular in the state compared to other allied health jobs because of amazing employment and annual income. There are ten schools that have ultrasound technician training in NYC that are accredited by the CAAHEP in 2014 (the school list).
Different sonography programs
Getting into the CAAHEP-accredited school is the best step forward in a career in sonography. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredits schools all over the country to make sure that their curricula meet the standards set by the organization. CAAHEP-accredited institutions make sure that a sonographer is ready to take the ARDMS certification exam once they graduate.
Students can choose to enroll in a certificate, associate, or bachelor degree program. They take a short as 12 months to as long as 4 years to complete. In-house or on-campus courses are quite popular, especially if the student is from the same city or state, but diagnostic medical sonography online schools are also available as a distance education option. Studying in an online school or taking an online program allows students to have better control over their schedule and their learning process.

Outlook of sonography and other allied health programs
By May 2012, there were 4,040 sonographers working in the state of New York. Sonographers earned $31.94 per hour, amounting to an annual income of $66,440. The employment levels of cardiovascular technologists were a little bit lower at 51,600, with an annual income of $52,070.
Compared to registered nurses, RN employment and salary levels were very high during the same period. Over 166,950 RNs were working in NY by 2012, earning an annual income of $74,100. Licensed practical and vocational nurses had lower employment and income compared to both RNs and sonographers. Employment was 48,520 with annual income at $44,250.
Radiologic technologists had lower employment but had more or less the same annual income as a sonographer. Employment was only at 12,210 but annual income was just $2,000 under the sonographer annual income, exactly $64,290. MRI techs earned even more than that despite an employment level of 1,280. Annual income for MRI techs was at $74,240.

Risk and benefits
We can see that as a job becomes more and more high risk, the employment levels go down while income goes up. This is clearly seen in the trend of annual income and employment among sonographers, radiologic, and MRI techs. Because sonography is such a low risk profession that still offers great pay, a lot of students choose to take ultrasound technician training in NY over other allied health education programs such as radiologic and MRI technician training.
