POLARIS Intrasvascular Ultrasound SysteM
The recent trend for companies that specialize in equipment is creating updated medical equipment. One of the most common projects these past few years is advancing the technology used in giving ultrasounds. Sonography used to be done with big, clunky machines that were stationary. The nineties and early 2000s introduced portable sonograms that could be wheeled around. Today, tablet-based and laptop-based sonograms are becoming all the rage.
With sonography technology becoming more advanced, it has also brought about an increase in people seeking steps on starting a career in sonography. Becoming an ultrasound technician is not difficult (learn about training through the link) contrary to popular belief. There are numerous on-campus and online programs available all over the country in 2015. |
Boston Scientific: The creation of POLARIS
Boston Scientific is added to the list of companies introducing newer, advanced sonogram models. The company recently announced in July 2014 about POLARIS, a system used with intravascular ultrasound catheters (IVUS). Dopplers used to be the gold standard in assessing the blood vessels, but IVUS and other similar systems are becoming more popular because the images they produce are much more accurate.
Boston Scientific is an organization that specializes in innovating new medical techniques to improve patient medical care all over the world. They focus on using science to create high-performance solutions to meet all of a patient’s needs and to eventually reduce the cost of health care.
The POLARIS imaging system was made to be more intuitive than older systems, improving cost-efficiency of intravascular ultrasound procedures while improving the quality of the images produced. Because the time of the procedure is shorter than normal, it not only improves costs, it also improves patient outcomes. Results are delivered much faster, allowing for faster treatment and general management of a patient. The system was created in collaboration with sonographers, physicians, and nurses, in order to create and ergonomic and functional sonography equipment that produced quality output.
